The Guildhall Market was built as a public market in 1861-63. Designed by architects Hickes & Isaac, trading has taken place on this site for over 800 years.
It was partially demolished in 1897 as the Guildhall was expanded to the south (toward Orange Grove) and the Technical School was built to the north (to the corner of Bridge Street)
During the height of the Market there were over 400 stalls. Today this has been reduced to approximately 20 stalls, run by local traders, true to the site history.
The Guildhall Market sits just outside of the boundary of SB2 site allocation, however due to in regenerative potential and historic relationship to the Colonnades site we have included it within the Bath Central Riverside boundary.
