The closures are necessary to conduct GPR surveys, which use non-invasive methods to assess underground infrastructure, this helps to create informed design proposals, ensure the safety and maintenance of our city’s roads and utilities.

The closures are to occur at night, typically from 22.00 – 5.00 to minimise disruption to traffic and businesses during peak hours. The table above outlines exact date and locations. Residents and businesses on affected streets will also receive a letter updating them.

Each closure will last for a few hours during the night, but the full survey process will take place over a series of nights throughout the month. Specific timings will vary based on the area and survey needs.

There will be limited access during the closures, but we will ensure that property owners and business owners can still access their locations. Signage for alternative routes will be provided, and our onsite team will assist where necessary.

Where possible businesses should make alternative arrangements for deliveries across this period when their specific street is closed. However, yes businesses can contact us in advance to discuss specific needs related to deliveries operations during the closures we do our best to accommodate these requests whilst ensuring the safety of all parties. Please get in touch in advance of works taking place via Regeneration_Team@BATHNES.GOV.UK.

Yes, we will be providing clearly marked detour routes to guide traffic around the closed roads. These routes will be designed to minimise inconvenience and will be communicated through signage and public announcements. We encourage you to plan ahead so that you can adjust your travel accordingly.

The GPR surveys are relatively quiet and non-disruptive however there may be some minor activity related to the setting up of equipment and managing traffic but we will work to minimise any disturbances.

Parking will be restricted on the affected streets during the road closure to ensure the safety and efficiency of the survey. We ask that residents and businesses move their vehicle before the closure begin. Details about this will be provided through on street signage. Please see table and map above with information on closure dates and areas.

This website will be kept up to date with the most recent information. A press release providing early warning of the works was circulated on 20 March 2025. Residents and businesses, within the areas where work will be carried out, will be provided with further updates via a letter drop and on street signage.

We are not anticipating bad weather in May/June that would cause a halt to the works. However, in case of extreme weather, the survey may be rescheduled to another night – any change in schedule will be communicated promptly through this website.

The GPR surveys use a safe non-invasive process that poses no risk to property or people. The equipment is designed to be safe for both the public and our survey team.

If you have any concerns or need assistance during closures, please contact our dedicated support team we will continue to address any issues as quickly as possible.

The GPR surveys will help identify underground utilities enabling the MQPR programme to make informed design proposals to create improvements to the area. Issues such as damaged pipes or cables will also be identified for repairs before they cause bigger disruptions, this helps improve the safety and longevity of the infrastructure reducing further future road works and inconvenience.
